In the pursuit of flawless beauty, many of us turn to trending products that contain chemically derived ingredients. From preservatives to fillers, fragrances, and lab-made alternatives to natural ingredients. Many of these chemicals are harmful to your skin, delivering short-term results or irritating your skin from day one. Or they are effective, but toxic to your health.
Wondering how toxic non-clean products are? The average woman’s daily skincare routine exposes her to 168 chemicals per day. This number is generated by adding up the toxic ingredients in your toothpaste to your deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, facial products, makeup, body lotion, and more.
If your products aren’t clean, they may contain:
Ingredient range aside, knowing what’s in your topical products empowers you to personalize your skincare and make informed buying decisions. It’s easy to get caught up in creative marketing and beautiful packaging. Skincare and beauty products are also part of your self-care routine. So, the excitement of treating yourself and the color, aroma, or design is part of the fun. But buying your skincare products can be both—fun and effective self-care.
Clean beauty isn’t only about what's in the products but also about the ethical standards implemented during the production process.
This often includes:
If your current anti-aging products don’t deliver the desired results or are no longer effective, we invite you to consider MBK.
We also have a variety of spa-quality skincare devices used by both estheticians and our everyday clients.
Rest assured that MBK always has and always will practice clean beauty principles!
]]>If your clients are asking for a FORMA facial or an RF facial, they are asking about radio frequency. RF is a non-invasive treatment that uses electromagnetic energy to heat the dermal layers of skin. By stimulating these deep layers of skin, collagen shrinks and regenerates. This new collagen production can improve the thickness and elasticity of the skin, providing a variety of anti-aging and aesthetic benefits.
RF is painless and often compared to a soothing hot stone massage. Our Radio Frequency device heats to between 113 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit and simultaneously delivers infrared 880nm for optimal rejuvenation.
You may already provide a variety of antiaging options, so you may be wondering what RF has to offer. Results vary but can be significant. For some clients, it can drastically reduces fine lines, deep wrinkles, neck creases, sagging skin, and sagging jowls. For others, the results are minimal and proactive.
For most, the objective is to:
Some clients prefer a Radio Frequency-only facial. This is a skincare treatment completed on a cleansed face with a conductive gel, such as an ultrasound gel. You will apply for a minimum of 3 minutes to each area of the face, then move on to the next area.
You can also upsell radio frequency as an add-on to your facials that include steam and masks to treat troubled areas.
For best results, clients will require between 3 to 6 treatments—at least once per week, no more than 3 times per week. Then, they can move on to monthly or quarterly maintenance.
Most estheticians charge around $600 per treatment, with pro-rated packages for 3 to 8 treatments. With our budget-friendly price, you can offer a far more competitive rate.
In addition to our budget-friendly price point, our device:
We have a device for that too! The MBK Curve is a multi-modality face, neck, and body toning device. It provides Radio Frequency, Ultrasound, Biomechanical Vibration, and Red LED Light. Read more here.
The repetitive motion of smiling, laughing, talking, and facial expressions leads to laugh lines and other fine lines and deep creases around the mouth. The more you express yourself, the faster your lips (and face) will age. The area around your eyes will age the fastest, typically followed by the skin around your lips.
The skin on the lips is approximately 4 times thinner and more delicate than the skin on your face. As natural collagen production slows, your lips (and skin) continue to thin. This means your lips are more susceptible to UV damage, wind, toxins, and other aging factors. Even more susceptible than the rest of your face.
Lip treatments are any product range, skincare device, or anti-aging treatment designed to treat the skin on or around the lips. This includes injectable products but also an impressive and growing range of day-to-day lip care products.
While products to prevent or address chapped lips are nothing new, the addition of anti-aging ingredients is new.
This includes lip products that contain:
This might be a balm that you can wear solo or layer before or after your lipstick. You can also find exfoliating masks, leave-on lip masks, and spa and at-home treatments that stimulate natural rejuvenation on and around the lips. Just don’t use a moisturizer designed for the face on your lips unless it’s clearly stated as lip-safe. Most facial serums are lip-safe.
You subconsciously lick your lips throughout the day which further dries them out. It also means that the product you apply to your lips must be both skin-safe and safe to ingest in small amounts.
It’s ideal to exfoliate proactively, before your lips chap. You may be tempted to exfoliate when they are peeling, but wait a few days to rehydrate and moisturize, and always be gentle or you can cause painful cracks in your lips.
You can make a DIY lip scrub with the directions below:
Methode Brigitte Kettner has a variety of spa-quality anti-aging devices that are safe and effective for at-home use—including an option you can use on your eyes and lips!
The Eye Rejuvenator is designed to treat the thin and delicate skin on the lips, around the lips, and on the eyes. It can also be used along the jowl line.
The Eye Rejuvenator delivers soothing heat to stimulate blood flow and microcurrent technology to tone, tighten, and stimulate natural collagen production.
Just apply a lip or eye serum to your treatment area, and glide over the area for 60 to 90 seconds. Use daily for 2 to 4 weeks, then 2 to 4 days per week ongoing.
It’s an exciting time for anti-aging beauty treatments as there is an increasing number of non-invasive options to explore—including LED light treatments. LED therapy is making us rethink the future of the skincare industry as it helps to ignite our body’s natural healing abilities, in a completely safe, pain-free, and non-toxic manner. Here’s what you need to know.
Sometimes referred to as red light therapy (RLT) this growing trend in the skincare industry delivers concentrated wavelengths of natural light to your skin. The light is 100% UV-free and safe for everyone. It warms your skin, but never burns and penetrates 10 millimeters deep delivering ATP to your cells. ATP is what provides our cells with the energy required to heal and repair. No burning, peeling, or damage to the skin as with lasers or chemical peels.
There are a variety of aesthetic benefits of LED therapy. Initially used by NASA as a light source to grow plants on spacecrafts, they also found that LEDs help to aid in wound repair. As a beauty professional you can suggest LED to your clients to:
Most types of light therapy contain ultraviolet rays, but LED does not. This means it is safe for ongoing use. Some clients experience redness, inflammation, or a short-term rash—but most clients have no side effects. Unlike chemical peels, laser therapy, or microdermabrasion there is no pain, no risk of burning and no need to schedule it around special events to make sure you look your best. However, LED therapy should not be used on those using Accutane or for those who currently have skin rashes.
There are a variety of professional red light therapy tools to choose from but the MBK Curve has a few unique advantages. It is a 4-in-1 skincare and beauty tool that can be used on the face and body. It’s large enough to work on targeted areas but small enough to work on curved areas of the body with ease—such as the jawline and neck. Since it’s small, many professionals use two at a time to cover more area in less time. It is pain-free and non-invasive and combines:

]]>The currents boost collagen production and mimic the natural process of ATP which is the cellular energy required to heal and repair. ATP and collagen production slows down as we age resulting in fine lines, wrinkles and other visible signs of aging. With the MBK Eye Rejuvenator, you can use microcurrents at home for your eyes, lip line, and jawline. In addition to delivering microcurrents, the warming effect allows your beauty serum to deeply penetrate your skin, optimizing its antiaging effect.
The Eye Rejuvenator can be a part of your daily beauty routine without adding on too much extra time. Use it once or twice daily, for just 60 to 90 seconds on each area. However, there are a few times you should not use microcurrents:
This fast and easy 7 step process is all you need to start your daily antiaging microcurrent therapy.
You will feel wonderful after each treatment, making microcurrent therapy an ideal way to start or end your day. It’s an at-home anti-aging tool for both men and women. Visible results will take 7 to 10 days with consistent use, and will include:
Use daily for at least the first 3 weeks then you can use every other day ongoing, or continue with daily use. Here’s to aging with grace!
]]>We’ve all heard the dreaded words, “you look tired”. Or you’ve looked in the mirror and thought this to yourself. The place you’re “seeing” when you notice that you look tired is your face. This is likely to be any combination of dark circles, red eyes, puffy eyes, and skin that looks dull. Even if you experience some of these symptoms on a regular basis, they are heightened when you don’t get enough sleep.
Sleep is when your body heals and repairs. So, if you don’t get enough, you will look and feel tired. Most adults require 7 to 9 hours of quality sleep per night. More if you’re sick, stressed, your sleep is interrupted, or if you naturally require more sleep.
Exfoliating might sound like an extra step in your already busy morning or evening skincare routine, but it’s an essential step. If you don’t slough away the dead skin on your face 1 to 3 times a week, your skin will begin to look dull. Long-term, your skin will age faster. The makeup, oil, sweat, skincare products, and daily toxins your face is exposed to buildup. This buildup won’t slough away without an exfoliating product.
Exfoliating only adds an extra minute or so to your skincare routine, so it’s an easy addition. You can also use a multi-modality exfoliating device or a leave-on or rinse-off exfoliant.
Your skin is your body’s largest organ, and it requires daily nutrients, moisture, and protection. Some of your biggest areas of opportunity for rapid rejuvenation include:
Speaking of individual needs, always personalize your skincare routine and skincare products. It’s easy to be drawn in by the most recent skincare trends, but it’s of greater importance to understand what your skin needs.
Your skin’s needs change in different weather, as you age, and as you manage whole-body health conditions. If you aren’t sure what you need, schedule an appointment with a trusted dermatologist or esthetician.
A consistent skincare routine is key, but to take your rejuvenation to the next level—invest in at-home and in-spa skincare treatments. From standard facials to anti-aging skincare treatments, and spa-quality tools you can use at home.
Last but not least, a proactive approach is the best approach, so create and maintain a personalized skincare routine!]]>
You should exfoliate your face 1 to 3 times per week. Same with your body, unless you are using a gentle daily exfoliator such as a soft puff or a body gel with exfoliators built in. There are two primary types of exfoliators:
Physical: exfoliating brushes, loofahs, puffs, skincare devices, silicone cleansing brushes, and sugar, salt, coffee, and other granular scrubs.
Chemical: exfoliating masks or acid-based leave-on or rinse-off products formulated with hydroxy acid or salicylic acid
Most skincare devices should be used 1 or 2 days per week and all exfoliators should be used as directed.
Regardless of what product you are using, be gentle—as exfoliating should never feel painful.
Once you see and feel the benefits of exfoliation, you might consider increasing the frequency. However, more is not better. If you over-exfoliate you run the risk of removing both the dead skin and the top healthy layer of skin. This isn’t just painful as it damages your skin and leaves it looking less than it’s best.
Some of the most common causes of over-exfoliation include:
Over-exfoliating removes too many skin cells and your skin’s natural protective oils. This overexposes your skin, leading your sebaceous glands to work on overtime. They will overproduce oil to create a protective layer. This won’t be a desirable glow, but an oily glow.
Signs of over-exfoliated skin include:
If you are experiencing the symptoms above and you believe they’re due to over-exfoliating, follow the tips below:
If your symptoms get worse or don’t improve within the next 7 days, schedule an appointment with your dermatologist. The longer your symptoms last, the greater the risk for bacteria growth, infection, and scarring. Another skin condition could be the cause of your irritation, or a prescription-grade product may be required to heal and repair the damage.
When your skin heals again, return to your regular skincare routine and begin exfoliating once per week. Gradually increase exfoliating to 2 to 3 days per week if irritation doesn’t return.
Methode Bridgette Kettner provides a variety of products to exfoliate and repair damaged skin. Our options are effective and safe for sensitive skin.

Always apply your skincare products to freshly cleansed skin. This washes away sweat, oil, makeup, daily toxins, and the last layer of skincare products you applied. You may prefer a foaming cleanser in the morning and summer months, or a creamy cleanser or double cleansing in the evening and winter months.
Toner is a step many skip, but it’s essential for helping you maintain or restore your skin’s pH balance. Proper pH balance is essential for soft, smooth, and hydrated skin. Toners are available as a liquid or a lotion. Lotion toners provide extra antioxidants, but they don’t moisturize your skin. Just be sure that your toner doesn’t contain alcohol.
Apply your toner directly after patting your skin dry.
Serums are ultra-thin antioxidant-rich formulas designed to easily penetrate your pores. It’s never too soon to begin using serum, but not later than your 30s or when the signs of aging begin to show.
Apply serum a minute or two after your toner once your skin has dried.
Moisturizers also contain antioxidants, but their primary role is to restore and lock in moisture. Daytime creams are lightweight enough to easily layer makeup on top. Nighttime creams are thicker to help your skin repair while you sleep.
Apply a minute or two after your serum.
Facial oil is primarily used to provide a secondary moisture layer. So, some only use facial oil in the winter months or when in harsh weather. Some only use facial oil when they want a dewy glow. It’s also popular for those who don’t wear makeup as the glow reflects light to minimize skin imperfections without having to apply makeup.
Mix a drop or two into your moisturizer or layer it over your moisturizer.
While the products above are designed to nourish and moisturize, sunscreen (like makeup) is designed to sit on top of your skin. Your AM moisturizer and makeup may provide UV protection. If so, you don’t need to apply facial sunscreen unless you are outside for an extended period of time. Most sunscreens are white, which can leave streaks or interfere with your makeup color saturation. So, consider tinted sunscreen.
Apply 2 or 3 minutes after your moisturizer or facial oil.
If you don’t wear makeup, you’re all set! If you wear makeup, here’s how to layer your products.
Last but not least, personalize your skincare products and makeup to your individual needs!
]]>Even though you don’t have any makeup on, you need to cleanse away oil and your evening skincare products each morning. This preps your skin for applying your makeup and skincare products.
Follow cleansing with a toner.
In the evening you can use the same cleanser as you do in the morning, but you may want to double cleanse. This will dissolve the makeup better than a solo cleanser. You could also use a multi-modality skincare device to cleanse and rejuvenate your skin.
Follow cleansing with a toner.
Serums are nutrient-rich formulas designed to penetrate your pores. They nourish but don’t moisturize.
The antioxidants in serums help protect your skin from daily toxins. You don’t have to begin using serums until you are in your mid-20s, but it’s never too early or too late to add serums to your skincare routine.
You can use the same serum you use in the morning, or a formula designed for evening use. This can include sheet masks. You can use a sheet mask in the morning, but it’s likely to be more convenient in the evening.
Morning moisturizers are a bit thinner than evening moisturizers. They lock in moisture, hydrate, and nourish your skin. Being thinner, it’s easier to layer your makeup on top.
Be sure to layer broad-spectrum sunscreen over your moisturizer or use makeup products with UV protection.
Since you won’t be layering sunscreen or makeup on top, evening moisturizers are thicker and creamier. They tend to have more antioxidants than daytime products. This supports your skin as it heals and repairs while you sleep.
It’s never too early or too late to begin using eye serums and moisturizers. At the very least, begin using them when the signs of aging begin to show. Since the skin around your eyes is thinner, eye products are also thinner.
Select your products or morning skincare device by your individual needs, which may be to eliminate bags, dark circles, or tighten the skin around your eyes.
If you wear long-wear or fiber mascara, creamy cleansers will do a better job of dissolving your makeup. You can also apply organic and unrefined olive oil or coconut oil to a cotton round and use it to dissolve your eye makeup and long-wear lipstick.
Follow up with eye serum and moisturizer.
You can personalize your morning routine by:
Applying Primer
Even if you don’t wear makeup, consider layering a primer over your sunscreen. This can provide color correction and an added layer of protection against daily toxins. If you wear makeup, primer also ensures a smooth base and long-lasting coverage.
Exfoliating
Exfoliate your skin 2 to 3 days a week, in either the morning or evening. You can use a granular or chemical skincare product or an exfoliating device.
You can personalize your evening routine by:
Exfoliating
Exfoliating sloughs away dead skin for smoother, brighter, and clearer skin. When you exfoliate in the evening you can follow up with deep cleansing.
Deep Cleansing
It’s ideal to exfoliate before you deep cleanse or to use a skincare device that cleanses and exfoliates at the same time.
The MBK Glo is a top pick as it is an all-in-one at-home facial device. Its features include:
As always, when selecting skin care products and at-home anti-aging devices, ignore the fads and prioritize your individual and evolving skincare needs!
Methode Brigitte Kettner is proud to offer a diverse range of skincare devices that are safe and effective for both spa and at-home use! One of our most popular devices is The GLO. This multi-modality rejuvenator includes red and yellow LED light as one of its many features. Its technology is based on scientifically proven skincare outcomes. Here’s what you need to know.
Technology and interior lighting might be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of LEDs. However, there are a variety of applications for LED light, including skincare.
LED skin care therapy is suitable for all skin types and all skin colors. It should never be used on inflamed skin, damaged skin, or open sores but is otherwise gentle, safe, and effective. There is no UV exposure and side effects are extremely rare.
You will feel a bit of warmth, but the skincare treatment is otherwise pain-free.
Infrared light (red LED) is the most versatile of the LEDs. It penetrates your outer layer of skin. Its beauty benefits include:
Yellow LED light also penetrates the outer layer of your skin, stimulating the body’s natural healing abilities. Its beauty benefits include:
You can add-on LED therapy to many spa facials, but it’s also safe and effective for home use. The GLO is a multi-modality device that you can use in between or as an alternative to spa facials. It delivers both red and yellow LED light, as well as:

Even if you have perfected your year-round skincare routine, your skin’s needs evolve significantly every 10 to 15 years. When the first signs of fine lines begin to set in, it’s time to add anti-aging products to the mix. At the very least, an anti-aging serum.

In addition to your individual skincare needs, fluctuating hormones have a lot to do with why your skin changes. If you’ve ever been pregnant, you likely enjoyed radiant skin, strong fingernails, and lustrous hair. This is due to the increased dose of estrogen during pregnancy.
Estrogen, and most other hormones, naturally decrease as we age. Studies have found a direct link between lower estrogen levels and collagen production. This gradual decrease in hormones may lead to any combination of:
By the time perimenopause begins, these changes will accelerate. The average woman will lose 30% of whole-body collagen in their first 5 years of menopause.
As you navigate through different stages of change, it's important to adapt your skincare products and treatments accordingly.
Serums are thin and lightweight formulas that are applied to the skin every morning and evening after cleansing and toning, but before moisturizing. While they may make your skin feel soft or look dewy, you must always layer moisturizer on top.
Both contain nutrient-rich antioxidants, but serums are designed to penetrate your pores—and moisturizers are designed to sit on top of the skin as a protective moisture barrier.
It’s never too early or too late to begin using a skincare serum. Many begin using them in the evenings or at least a few days a week in their teens and twenties. Or you can begin using serums at the very first sign of fine lines. The more proactive you are, the more likely you are to slow the visible signs of aging.
Starter serums deliver anti-aging benefits, but once fine lines begin to set in, it’s time to upgrade to a dedicated anti-aging formula.
The MBK Skinflower Concentrate Anti-Aging Serum is formulated with a proprietary blend of scientifically proven rejuvenating ingredients. It’s designed to reactivate cellular repair to reverse some of your existing damage and take a proactive approach to new damage.
Ingredients include:
This peptide is the primary building block of collagen. Collagen minimizes sagging, but collagen production minimizes as you age. This building block promotes new collagen growth.
If you are ready to transition to an anti-aging serum or a full anti-aging range, MBK’s got you covered!

The tips below help you take both a proactive and reactive approach to the signs of aging without invasive surgery.
Your skin is your body’s largest organ. Like all organs in your body, your skin requires nutrients in the form of hydration and antioxidant-rich vitamins. When it comes to your skin, drinking water, taking vitamins, and eating a nutrient-rich diet isn’t enough, as you also require topical hydration and antioxidants.
Look beyond the skincare fads and trends to products formulated with natural ingredients that contain scientifically proven ingredients. Evolve these products seasonally, as your skincare needs change, and as your skin matures.
This includes ingredients that:
With just a few minutes each morning and evening, you can slow the visible signs of aging. In addition to the universal skincare routine below, you must also personalize your routine to address your current and evolving skincare needs. What this looks like varies from one person to the next and may include the use of at-home skincare devices and professional skincare treatments.
Think of heading to the spa as more than pampering, as head-to-toe skincare treatments can be part of your anti-aging routine. For best results, consult with your dermatologist and esthetician to determine what skincare treatments are right for you.
At-home skincare treatments can be used instead of or in addition to spa treatments. MBK has a variety of multi-modality skincare devices, including:

Skin is naturally acidic. This helps to protect you from bacteria that can dry and irritate your skin. Your acid layer also supports your skin’s protective layer (sebum) from producing the appropriate amount of oil. Too much oil and you will be more acne prone, not enough and your skin will be rough or dry.
Your genetics, lifestyle, environmental toxins, nutrition, fluctuating hormones, and skin care products can leave your skin “unbalanced”.
Balanced skin is soft, smooth, and hydrated. Ideally, it is neither oily or dry—but this will vary depending on your skin type.
For balanced skin, regardless of skin type, your pH should be between 4.7 and 5.75. If your pH is lower, it is too acidic. If it is higher, it is alkaline.
Alkaline Skin—if your skin is dry and rough instead of smooth and twice-daily moisturizer isn’t improving your skin condition, your skin is likely alkaline. This increases your risk of eczema, acne, and skin infections.
Acidic Skin—if your skin is excessively oily and oil reappears quickly after you blot, your skin is likely too acidic. This increases your risk for acne and irritation, and you may age prematurely as your skin is not able to effectively heal and repair.
Whether your skin is acid or alkaline, toner balances your skin. It also preps your skin so that it better absorbs your serum and moisturizer. If your skin is balanced, it keeps your skin balanced.
Some toners are water-based and some are lotion-based. Just ensure that your toner is alcohol-free, as the alcohol won’t balance your skin. Instead, it will dry and irritate your skin.
Toners are part of a 6-step AM and PM skincare routine. Even if you use a lotion toner, you still need to follow up with serum and moisturizer.
The 6-step skincare routine is as follows:
Only if it doesn’t contain alcohol. The skin underneath the eyes and on the eyelids is extremely thin. So, you must only apply products that are eye-safe and naturally-derived. While naturally-derived toners can be applied topically on the eyelids and underneath the eyes, they will sting and irritate if they get in your eye.
Methode Brigette Kettner has 3 different lotion toners to choose from:
Select the additional skincare products in your 6-step skincare routine based on your skin’s current and evolving needs.

Sheet masks are highly concentrated serums. While all serums are lightweight and antioxidant-rich formulas designed to penetrate your pores, sheet masks take things to the next level. The infused sheet sits on your skin, drenching your pores with its nutrient-rich ingredients.
If you prefer to lay back and relax while your mask is on, take a bit of time for yourself. But you can optimize your mask’s performance.
To increase circulation and assist the antioxidants in further penetrating your pores, use a Jade Roller or Ultrasonic Device over your mask.
This is entirely up to you. One strategy is to use them after you are home for the day, as sleep is when your body heals and repairs. So, using a mask in the evening promotes natural regeneration.
Another strategy is to use a sheet mask before applying your makeup for a special event. This will give your skin a natural and youthful glow.
Always use sheet masks as directed. What all masks have in common is that they need to be applied to cleansed and toned skin. How long you can leave the mask on may vary, and whether it has to be washed off varies too. You may need to layer a moisturizer on top, or you may not need a moisturizer.
That being said, if your mask burns or irritates your skin in any way—take it off and immediately rinse your skin. This typically only occurs with masks that are formulated with harsh and synthetic ingredients. Rest assured that all MBK products are formulated with natural ingredients and designed to be safe and effective for sensitive skin.
Our Lifting Hyaluronic Cell Mask contains triple hyaluronic acid and micro-collagen for ultimate antiaging benefits. After use, your skin will be radiant and refreshed.
The hyaluronic acid will instantly plump your skin, providing both a lift and a natural glow. With regular use, the micro-collagen stimulates collagen production to provide proactive and reactive antiaging.
Our mask is used on cleansed and toned skin for 20 minutes 2 to 3 times a week, or any time you want an instant lift and glow. Don’t forget to massage any excess serum in the packet onto your neck and décolletage!
Yes, MBK has an eye mask too! Our BioCellulose Eye Mask instantly refresh tired eyes. They are the thinnest eye mask on the market and feel like a second skin. Our proprietary blend of antiaging peptides infuses the eye area with intense moisture, while minimizing crow’s feet and other fine eye lines. It can be used on all skin types but is designed for mature skin and premature aging.
Apply to cleansed and toned skin in the morning or evening. Leave on for 15 minutes and massage in the remaining skincare ingredients. Use 2 to 3 days a week to address sagging and aging, or as needed to refresh and rejuvenate tired eyes.
Methode Bridgette Kettner also has a range of overnight masks to repair your skin while you sleep.
]]>It’s an age-old question, but your daily skincare routine remains fairly the same from your 20s on. However, you will need to evolve your skincare products by the season of the year and your individual skin conditions.
]]>You should exfoliate your skin from the neck down at least once per week but from the neck up 1 to 3 times per week. This will slough away the acne and oil-causing dead skin that your body has yet to shed. If not regularly removed, this dead skin can accelerate aging.
Yes, our skin naturally self-exfoliates, but between oil, sweat, daily toxins, and makeup—your skin needs a little extra help.
You can use a granular exfoliator, rinse-off exfoliator, or an exfoliating beauty device.
After you exfoliate, feel free to deep cleanse your skin with a rinse-off mask. This will help to extract toxins from deep in your pores.
You will also need to cleanse your face every morning to wash away last night’s skincare products. Wash again every evening to wash away daily oil, grime, sunscreen, makeup, and skincare products.
You may want to double cleanse in the evening, especially if you wear long-lasting makeup formulas.
You can use a cotton round with unrefined olive oil or coconut oil to dissolve fiber mascara formulas.
Gently pat your face dry after you cleanse, then apply a liquid or lotion toner. Toning is a step that many skip, but it is essential for ensuring your skin’s pH balance.
Skin that isn’t balanced is dry, dull, rough, or red for an unidentified reason. When in doubt, head to your dermatologists to determine the cause of your skin conditions.
Wait about 20 seconds after applying your facial toner, then apply a facial serum. Serums are antioxidant-rich and lightweight formulas. Being lightweight, the skin-healthy vitamins within penetrate deep into your pores—which is essential for both proactive and reactive antiaging.
It’s never too early, but definitely begin using serum in your mid-20s or as soon as the visible signs of aging begin to show.
Wait another 20 seconds or so, then apply a facial moisturizer. While also antioxidant-rich, moisturizers hydrate your skin. They are thicker and creamier than serums, providing an all-day protective moisture layer.
PM moisturizers are often thicker, creamier, and have more antioxidants. This is because your skin heals and repairs while you sleep.
Yes! Again, it’s never too early to begin using eye serum and moisturizer, but definitely as soon as you begin to see fine lines or experience puffiness or dark circles.
The only thing that ages your skin more than the sun is smoking. So, in the mornings, layer a broad-spectrum facial sunscreen on about 30 seconds after you apply moisturizer. Or wear makeup with SPF protection built in, which most formulas now include!
Once your skin is clean, nourished, and moisturized you can apply a primer and foundation, or just a foundation and your makeup of choice.
If you prefer a natural look, consider an SPF-tinted moisturizer or translucent powder.

We don’t think about it, but most of us raise our eyebrows 100 or more times per day. Over time, permanent creases form. Initially, these creases are only visible when we raise our eyebrows. For some of us, the creases will be visible even when we aren’t raising our eyebrows.
Although inevitable, we can slow the natural signs of aging. We can also make healthy lifestyle choices that minimize the rate at which fine lines, wrinkles, and deep creases form. As we age, our skin stops producing collagen and elastin at the same rate as it did when we were younger.
You are likely to see the first visible signs of aging as early as your mid-20, and definitely by your 30s. You can take a proactive approach to whole-body anti-aging by:
A daily skincare routine should cleanse, balance, nourish, and hydrate. You will also need to deep clean and exfoliate weekly. If you skip any of these steps, your skin will have a harder time repairing itself. For example, when you don’t wash your face, your pores can get clogged. This can lead to acne, but over time it can contribute to premature aging.
Your morning and evening skincare routine should include:
Your face contains 20 muscles. While we move our face all day long, we don’t “work out” our face or our neck. Just like day-to-day movement isn’t enough to remain physically fit, our face needs exercise too. This will stimulate the natural production of collagen, increase circulation to nourish the skin, and tighten and tone your skin. If you’ve noticed that your skin is tighter and firmer after a spa facial, it’s because your muscles have been optimized.
You can exercise your face and neck with:
Microcurrent technology is a non-invasive and pain-free way to exercise your facial muscles. Small handheld devices deliver a low-grade electrical current, that feels like a gentle and soothing vibration that:
You can purchase The Glo to use microcurrents at home. This saves both time and money, as consistency is key—and it’s too hard to get to the spa 2 or 3 days per week.
The Glo is a multi-modality device that also provides:
Positive ion—the positive ion mode helps remove residue and aids in deep cleansing.
Negative ion—the negative ion mode helps with product penetration.
Warm—the heat helps to open the pores for better product penetration and removal of residue on the skin.
Vibration—this mode will help release residue in the pores. It stimulates the skin and aids in relaxing and toning.
Red Light—630nm-635nm, red light penetrates all the way to the dermis, promoting the growth of collagen to maintain the elasticity and water content of skin.
Yellow Light—590nm-595nm, yellow light can accelerate blood circulation, activate cells, promote cell growth, and improve pigmentation.
While your current concern may be your forehead wrinkles, the tips above will help you take a proactive approach to all wrinkles on your face, neck, and décolletage!

It would be ideal if you could find a skincare routine that works and stick with it long-term. However, your skin’s needs change and evolve, so you’ll need to adjust your skincare products accordingly.
Generally speaking, day creams are designed to be lighter weight. They deliver antioxidants and moisture, and often a bit of UV protection. They are easy to layer primer, foundation, powder, and makeup over.
PM creams are thicker and creamier than day creams and are designed to provide a restorative moisture barrier while you sleep. Sleep is when your skin naturally repairs and corrects damage. So, night creams provide additional antioxidants to accelerate restoration. They often have ingredients that stimulate natural collagen production.
Methode Brigette Kettner’s Tonight Cream is formulated for maximum overnight restoration and repair. Use at the first sign of fine lines, or as a proactive approach before lines or wrinkles form. It’s also ideal for sensitive and mature skin of any skin type.
For maximum anti-aging and restorative benefits, you should apply serum first. Serums and moisturizers perform two different functions.
Serums—are ultra-thin and antioxidant-rich formulas that are designed to penetrate your pores. They nourish, but they don’t hydrate or moisturize.
Moisturizers—are creamy and moisture-rich formulas that hydrate and protect your skin. While antioxidant-rich they don’t penetrate your skin as well as serums.
Cleanse and tone your face before applying serum. Wait 15 to 30 seconds and layer your moisturizer on top.

]]>In this article, we'll explore what hyperpigmentation is, the causes of hyperpigmentation, and how to prevent dark spots. With the right information and care, you can reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation and maintain your beautiful, even-toned complexion!
Also known as melasma, sunspots, and liver spots, hyperpigmentation is caused by the overproduction of melanin that leads to dark patches. Melanin is a naturally occurring substance in our bodies that produces our hair color, eye color, and skin color. When our bodies overproduce melanin, dark spots can form. Some spots are as small as freckles and are only a few shades darker than our natural skin color, while others are larger than a pencil eraser—and several shades darker than our natural skin color.
Hyperpigmentation can occur anywhere on the body, but is most common on the:
While not harmful, hyperpigmentation can cause you to feel self-conscious about your appearance. Only 10% of those diagnosed are men, and 90% of those diagnosed are women.
However, 65% of men and women with dark skin will experience hyperpigmentation.
The most common cause is fluctuating hormones, which is why many women’s first dark spots occur while they are pregnant, in perimenopause, and in menopause.
There are a variety of skin conditions and health conditions that can lead to discoloration and dark spots. As soon as you notice changes to your skin, schedule an appointment with your dermatologist.
Unlike your general care physician, dermatologists have the expertise and equipment to analyze your skin. They will also advise you on a plan to treat and minimize your dark spots. Diagnosing hyperpigmentation is non-invasive and can be completed the same day—typically within seconds.
The best approach is always a proactive approach. Or a reactive approach designed to slow the production of new dark spots.
Sunscreen—not only should you apply a broad-spectrum UV sunscreen every morning year-round, but it should be reapplied every 4 hours. If you work outside or will be swimming or sweating, use a waterproof product designed for your face.
Limit Sun Exposure—enjoy the sun, but wear a hat! Also, invest in clothing with UV protection, sit in the shade when you can, wear sunglasses, and don’t forget to wear lip balm with UV protection.
Don’t Skip Your Annual Physical—ensure you have personalized bloodwork completed each year, including testing your hormone levels. For some women, birth control and prescription hormones minimizes hyperpigmentation, for others, it increases their dark spots. So, you must take a personalized approach.
Use Quality Skincare Products—harsh skincare and products, beauty treatments, and skincare devices can damage your skin. This can cause dark spots and increase the likelihood of dark spots.
There are a variety of treatment options to explore, so ask your dermatologist what is best for your skin. We have a blog that details some of your options and how Methode Brigette Kettner’s products can help!
]]>Wondering why or if you need to use skincare serums? Wondering how often to use skincare serums? Serums are a vital part of every anti-aging skincare routine. It’s never too late to begin using a serum as a proactive or reactive approach to the visible signs of aging. This guide walks you through everything you need to know.
Serums and moisturizers are often mistaken as one and the same. While they are both part of an anti-aging skincare routine, they deliver distinctly different skincare benefits.
Serums are thin and nutrient-rich formulas designed to penetrate your pores. While they make your skin look dewy, they provide minimal moisture.
Moisturizers are typically thicker than serums. They also contain antioxidants, but they are designed primarily to infuse your skin with a protective layer of moisture.
Use all sheet masks as directed, but most are used as serums. The difference between sheet masks and everyday serums is that sheet masks are designed to achieve specific skincare goals. This might be a soothing mask for when your skin is inflamed, a hydrating mask for when your skin is dry, or an ultra-nutrient-rich mask to make your skin glow.
Most sheet masks are designed to be used 1 to 3 times a week, typically after your weekly exfoliation. You can find sheet masks for both your face and your eyes.
There isn’t a set-in-stone age for when to begin using serums. In your teens and twenties, you may only use sheet masks a couple of times a week. Your skin changes every 8 to 10 years. As the initial signs of aging begin to show, it’s time to add a serum to your skincare routine. It’s never too soon to begin using serum, and it’s never too late.
Yes! The skin around the eyes is thinner, so standard serums and moisturizers are too thick to penetrate the skin around your eyes. Your eyes are one of the first places you will show the visible signs of aging. Especially with our daily use of digital devices. As soon as you see laugh lines, start using an eye serum andeye cream. Some eye products are even formulated to address puffy eyes and dark circles.
You can also be proactive by using eye products before the visible signs of aging begin to show. Or askincare device that stimulates the natural anti-aging production of collagen.
Serum should be applied every morning and evening. Also, to address seasonal and condition-specific skincare concerns. It should be part of your daily AM/PM 5-step skincare routine:
Last but not least, continue to evolve your skincare routine as your skin matures.
]]>Schedule an appointment at the salon at least 1 week before the event you want to look your best for. This will trim away dead ends and refresh your color. Also, inquire about whether you should deep condition your hair or try a new product or two. If you are feeling adventurous, consider a new hairstyle for the New Year.
You may also want to have your hair and makeup professionally styled for special events. For your convenience, see if you can have someone come to your house.
Painting your nails is a little something extra that can refine your holiday look. Schedule an at-home or salon manicure and pedicure a day or two before your event. Have fun with it and consider gel nails and maybe a festive color and decals. This might be red and green polish, snowflake decals, glitter for New Year’s, or a bold color or design you wouldn’t normally wear.
Just remember, gel nails need to be touched up every 3 to 4 weeks, so plan accordingly. If you don’t wear gel polish year-round, it will need to be removed professionally.
The holidays are also an excellent time to refine your eyebrows and eyelashes. You have a variety of options to choose from, including:
Yes, you can find fake lashes or extensions that create a look that is natural and refined. Or go for a bold holiday look.
Consider heading online or to your preferred makeup counter for a few new cosmetics. Maybe new lipstick, eye shadow, bronzer, or perfume. If bronzer isn’t right for you, consider a foundation, powder, or highlighter with light-reflecting particles. This will minimize the appearance of scars, acne, discoloration, or imperfections.
If you plan to spray tan, wait at least 24 hours after you wax. This requires more than one trip to the salon but waxing after a spray tan leaves streaks—and waxing before can irritate your skin.
As we mentioned above, consider at-home makeup application or spray tan.
We covered when to wax before you spray tan, but there are a few other considerations:
Depending on where you live in the country, the air outside is likely to be colder and drier this time of year. So, if you haven’t yet, it’s time to switch from your lighter AM moisturizer to a thicker and creamier daytime cream. Don’t forget a nourishing overnight mask and eye care products that will help you look refreshed after a late night.
Keep your skin looking its best with a multi-step AM and PM skincare routine that includes exfoliating 2 to 3 days per week.
Also, consider a spa facial the week prior to your special event. Or incorporate at-home beauty treatments into your holiday season skincare routine.
Here’s to a happy holiday season!

It is one device to:
Deep cleansing nylon brushes were popular for many years. MBK had a nylon brush that we still sell replacement heads for, but our new brush is made from silicone.
In addition to the fact that nylon bristles wear out over time, nylon is porous and can grow bacteria. Without proper storage, cleaning, and replacement—bacteria-ridden nylon can be problematic.
Silicone is non-porous and soft but durable, eliminating the need for replacement heads. Our silicone cleansing brush:
While gentle, as with all exfoliators, you should only use our silicone brush a maximum of 3 times a week.
The second side of our silicone cleansing brush is a smooth metal conductor that combines 8 spa facial functions that can be combined to deliver your desired results. The spa functions are also safe for sensitive skin and should only be used 3 times a week.

There are a variety of reasons why your skin may be dull:
Excess of dead skin cells—you can’t see them, but if you aren’t exfoliating 2 to 3 times per week, dead skin cells will build up. While skin naturally sheds, oil, makeup, and skincare products can clog your pores and inhibit shedding. The rate of shedding also slows as you age.
Environmental toxins—while most of our skin is covered by clothing, our face is exposed all day long. This daily exposure to dirt and free radicals leaves impurities penetrating your pores. You can’t avoid the toxins, so you must be proactive about addressing them.
Skin stress—if your skin is stressed it will look dull. From acne to psoriasis, eczema, dry skin, dehydrated skin, sunburn, and even a lack of sleep. Treating skin stress may require working with a dermatologist and esthetician. At the very least, switching to gentle and targeted skincare products.
Nutrient deficiency—you need to nourish your skin internally and externally. It requires water, antioxidants, Omega-fatty acids, zinc, copper, iron, and more. Eating a well-balanced diet, taking nutritional supplements, and using antioxidant-rich skincare serums and moisturizers are essential.
Hormonal imbalances—whether it’s puberty, prescription hormones, other prescriptions, perimenopause, menopause, or an illness, hormonal imbalances can wreak havoc on your skin. Work with your physician to minimize the whole-body side effects.
Mineral clay is a naturally occurring compound found all over the world. It is derived from the remains of flora, fauna, rocks, and other organic matter. Over time, they form a pure, nutrient-rich, and fine silt or powder.
When mixed with oil or water, clay works like a magnet, drawing out environmental toxins. It also gently exfoliates your skin. With consistent use, clay will minimize excess oil—which is often caused by dead skin and clogged pores.
If you struggle with acne or monthly breakouts, clay can help. As counterproductive as it sounds, your body produces more oil when your pores are clogged. This is to encourage the shedding of dead skin cells. Again, our makeup and skincare products can slow this process.
Mineral masks are gentle and effective for all skin types, and a must for anyone who struggles with oil or acne. Use each mask as directed.
Below are the directions for using Methode Brigette Kettner’s Terra Vita Mask. To moisturize while purifying and exfoliating, our mask is infused with soothing calendula oil.

Biomechanical vibrations are hyper-targeted and pain-free rapid vibrations. The vibrations stimulate your connective tissue and muscles. You feel nothing other than a gentle buzz, but your device vibrates 6,000 to 7,000 times per minute depending on the speed setting.
While you will see and feel results after just one treatment, you need about 15 treatments for optimal results. So, if you don’t see the results you are hoping for after your first few treatments, stick with it as results take time.
Some of the top reasons to consider biomechanical vibrations with a multi-modality device include:
As an added bonus, the myofascial release can leave your body feeling longer, looser, and less tense. Stretch a bit post-treatment to maximize the physical release.
Yes, you can! As long as you use your skincare device as directed, it is safe to use at home. Since maximum results require 2 to 3 treatments a week for 4 to 6 weeks, having an at-home device is both time and cost-effective. After your first 12 to 15 treatments, you can taper down to once every 3 to 4 weeks.
MBK currently has two multi-modality devices that offer biomechanical vibrations:
If you would like to learn more about biomechanical vibrations or any of our skincare devices, just let us know!
]]>The outer layer of our skin, the epidermis, is 64% water and 15% lipids. When healthy, this layer is soft, smooth, and supple. Our lifestyle habits and skincare routine can damage our epidermis, leaving it tight, dry, and weak.
With the right moisture balance your skin:
The two terms are often utilized interchangeably, but dry skin is a skin type, and dehydrated is a lack of moisture. However, your skin can be both dry and dehydrated. If your skin is dehydrated, you need to address the dehydration internally and externally.
Oily is also a skin type, but excessive oil and an oily T-Zone may be a sign of dehydration. When the skin on your face is dehydrated, it will over-produce oil in an attempt to protect and rebalance. By restoring the moisture balance, you can minimize your visible oil.
If you are properly moisturizing your skin but it remains dehydrated, it could be due to your pH balance. Factors such as harsh skincare products, weather, external toxins, and hormonal imbalances can leave your skin alkaline instead of balanced.
Begin by investing in head-to-toe skincare and beauty products that are derived from natural oils, butters, and moisturizers. While trending products smell great and look pretty, they aren’t always made with premium ingredients.
Always apply body lotion after you shower, apply hand lotion and lip balm throughout the day, and follow the skincare routine below for your face.
We suggest Methode Brigette Kettner’s Aqua Pure Collection for this routine. It is moisture-rich, works for multiple skin types, and is formulated with ingredients that are backed by science.
If your skin is dehydrated externally, you are likely dehydrated internally. These changes to your lifestyle and daily routine will help.
Our Aqua Pure Line is our most popular collection, but you can swap in or out products from our Classic Line to address your individual skincare needs. As your skin matures, you can mix in our Age Reversal products.

A dermatologist is a medical doctor that specializes in the skin, hair, nails, and mucus membranes of the body. They can diagnose and treat over 3,000 conditions. This includes advising on skincare products, prescribing medications, and advising on skincare treatments often provided by estheticians. Many dermatologists refer to or have on-staff estheticians or aestheticians.
Common reasons to go to a dermatologist include:
Estheticians are licensed and certified non-medical skin care professionals. They specialize in improving the appearance of the outermost layers of your skin. They can advise on non-medical skincare products and perform non-medical anti-aging skin care treatments. Estheticians often work in spas and salons but may also work in a dermatologist’s office. Your esthetician will refer you to a dermatologist if they believe you may have a medical skincare condition.
Common reasons to go to an esthetician include:
Some estheticians are specially trained and certified in semi-permanent makeup including eyebrow tinting, lash tinting, and microblading
Different states have different guidelines, but some allow advanced certification and licensing for medical estheticians, aestheticians, or master estheticians. With their additional certification, they may be able to perform more intensive skin care treatments, such as:
When in doubt, book with your dermatologist first. We often mistake changes in our skin’s appearance with aging, but there may be an underlying medical or skin condition. If you book with your esthetician or aesthetician first, they will advise you to see a dermatologist if they believe you may have a medical condition.
For example, an esthetician may ask if you’ve seen a dermatologist regarding the red spots on your face? Or they may advise that the dry patches on your skin aren’t just dry or dehydrated skin. While estheticians work with clients who have rosacea, eczema, and other medical skin conditions they cannot diagnose you—and cannot explore the underlying cause.
Once you have a medical diagnosis, estheticians can suggest safe and effective skincare treatments. They may even work with your dermatologist to personalize your skincare routine.
If you don’t have a medical skin condition, an esthetician will talk to you about your skin type and overall skin health. They will advise on products, devices, and treatments that address your individual skin care needs. For example, they may advise on microdermabrasion to even out skin texture and tone and fade acne scarring.
Love your esthetician’s skincare devices, but don’t have the time or budget to keep up with their recommended treatment schedule? Methode Brigitte Kettner offers a range of Spa-Quality Skincare Devices that are safe for at-home use. This empowers you to continue your esthetician or dermatologist-recommended treatments with fewer trips to the salon, spa, or doctor.
]]>Microcurrent treatments and facials continue to gain in popularity. They provide a gentle, safe, and effective alternative to invasive anti-aging procedures. If you aren’t seeing the “before and after” results you’ve seen posted online, your treatment frequency may be the reason why. Here’s what you need to know to get optimal results.
]]>While seemingly new, microcurrent technology has been around since the 1970s. It was initially utilized as a treatment for Bell’s palsy and physical therapy. Physical therapists and physicians noticed that in addition to treating pain and paralysis, patients presented antiaging benefits.
Microcurrent essentially exercises your facial muscles. All you’ll feel is a gentle and soothing vibration. The vibrations deliver a low-grade and pain-free electrical current that:
Don’t let the name fool you, as it is a pain-free and non-invasive skincare therapy. That being said, it’s not for everyone. You should consult with your physician before use and let your esthetician know if you are:
While you will walk out of your facial looking rejuvenated, consistency is key. To achieve maximum results, you need to have around 1 to 3 treatments per week. You will see full results once you have completed 20 treatments over a 2-month period. Then, you can scale down to 2 to 4 times per month for preventative maintenance.
At between $200 to $600 per treatment, this schedule is both costly and time-consuming. Also, why many are investing in at-home microcurrent devices.
At-home skincare devices empower you to maintain your therapy schedule in between your professional treatments. To ensure safety, invest in an esthetician-grade device and use it as directed.
While professional devices cost more, they are designed with premium components and to required safety specs.
Another reason to invest in a professional microcurrent device, is to ensure results. Less expensive devices may not deliver the same grade of current as a professional device. This means you may not enjoy the same results, or that it will take longer to see results.
Methode Brigette Kettner has two microcurrent devices to choose from. The Eye Rejuvenator can be used on your lip line, lips, and eyes. The Glo is a multi-modality device that can be programmed in a variety of different ways to personalize your skincare routine. It is an all-in-one device that can be used for the following skincare therapies:
If you have any other questions regarding microcurrent facials or our skincare devices—don’t hesitate to ask!

If you have additional questions regarding our masks, skincare products, or beauty devices—don’t hesitate to ask.
]]>While it’s always fun to try new products, treatments, and devices—there’s no need to try them all. Not only is it expensive to try every new fad, but fads rarely address your individual needs. So, determine what your skin care concerns are, and invest in quality products, devices, and treatments that address them. Just remember that your skin care needs will be different in different weather (winter vs. summer) and by age and season of life.
You don’t have to go it alone! Since your skincare needs are evolving, it is essential to have a go-to dermatologist, esthetician, and makeup artist. Head to the dermatologist at least once per year and the esthetician and makeup artist as needed. This will minimize your beauty investments as they will advise on personalized skincare products, treatments, devices, and your daily routine.
Skincare products should be selected by your skin type and individual skincare needs. Test new products for at least 6 weeks to determine if they are right for you—that is unless they irritate your skin. Contrary to popular belief, skincare products and beauty treatments should not hurt.
If you wear makeup, invest in long-wear formulas that stay put. This will minimize the amount of time you spend reapplying makeup throughout the day. Just be mindful that long-wear lipsticks, mascara, and topical products are more difficult to remove at the end of the day. Double cleansing will help to dissolve these long-lasting products.
There is an exciting new generation of semi-permanent makeup that is ideal for both those who prefer a natural look and those who prefer full-on glam. These products shorten the time you spend applying and removing makeup each day.
A few options to consider include:
We hope you will consider MBK’s skincare products and beauty devices when personalizing and simplifying your skincare routine. Our products are formulated utilizing ingredients that have scientifically proven benefits. This includes condition-specific products for everything from dry skin to irritated skin, acne, puffy eyes, mature skin, and more.
