5 Tips For Anti-Aging Skincare Routines

At Methode Brigitte Kettner, we believe in aging with grace and celebrating the skin we are in at every age and season of life. At the same time, we understand your desire to take a proactive approach to the natural formation of fine lines and wrinkles. Here are 5 tips to add to your anti-aging skincare routine.

#1 Sunscreen

The only thing that ages your skin faster than smoking is over-exposure to UV rays. This means that regardless of the weather or how often you will be exposed to direct sunlight, you must wear sunscreen 365 days per year.

Ensure your sunscreen is broad-spectrum so that it also protects your skin from indoor UV rays such as blue light from fluorescent bulbs and electronic devices.

Keep sunbathing to a minimum, utilize waterproof formulas when needed, reapply every 2 hours when outside, and wear at least an SPF of 50. If your foundation has SPF too, you can apply an extra layer during the day to maintain protection.

#2 Lifestyle

We mentioned smoking above, but there are a few other lifestyle habits that have a significant impact on how rapidly your skin ages.

Sleep—sleep is when our skin naturally heals and repairs so aim for 7 to 9 hours of quality sleep per night. Otherwise, you will see the visible signs of sleep deprivation on your skin and around your eyes, with even one day of reduced sleep. Our Skin Recharge Biocellulose Eye Mask can help to refresh and rejuvenate tired eyes.

Hydration—your skincare product hydrates your skin topically, but you must also hydrate your body from within. Keep in mind that not all liquids count as hydration. For example, soda, ice cream smoothies, and more than one electrolyte beverage per day do not count. Water, herbal tea, freshly squeezed juice, bone broth, 1 cup of coffee a day, and even milk count.

Nutrition—fruits and vegetables can also count a bit toward your daily hydration, and as a bonus they are rich in skin-healthy antioxidants. While some foods have more antioxidants than others, all whole foods contain essential antioxidants, so keep processed foods to a minimum. Particularly synthetic sugars, which slow the natural production of collagen and elastin.

#3 Be Gentle

Somewhere along the way, it has become acceptable that skincare products and anti-aging treatments should sting, burn, or hurt. Unless you have unhealed skin conditions such as eczema or rosacea, skincare products should never hurt. Even then, you should be using gentle products that are designed to soothe your symptoms.

If you compare any of MBK’s ingredient lists to that of most store-bought skincare products, you will find that we have far fewer ingredients. This is because we turn to scientifically proven natural ingredients, not harsh synthetic fillers, dyes, or fragrances.

#4 Personalize Your Skincare Routine

It’s empowering when you find a skincare product that works for you, but it won’t last long-term. Don’t be discouraged by this fact, just pay attention to signs that your skin has changed. You will likely need to adjust your skincare products:

  • For winter and summer.
  • During puberty and menopause.
  • As you notice your skin changing in your 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50+.
  • To address individual skincare issues such as acne, dry skin, oily skin, hyperpigmentation, and more.

#5 Proactive Skincare Treatments

In addition to a personalized skincare routine, we encourage you to take a proactive approach to anti-aging with weekly, monthly, and as-needed skincare treatments. This includes a combination of spa and at-home treatments such as:

  • Weekly exfoliation
  • Deep cleansing masks
  • Hydrating masks
  • Steam
  • Facials
  • Microdermabrasion
  • Ultrasound waves
  • Biochemical vibrations
  • Ion+ electrical current
  • LED treatments
  • And more!
