5 Tips You Should Know About Moisturizers

You’ve likely been applying facial moisturizer since you were in your teens, but you might not be applying it properly. Here are 5 tips that will ensure you get the most out of your moisturizer.

Tip #1 Selecting The Right Product

You need to select your moisturizer by your individual needs. This includes factors such as your skin type, skin issues, and what rate at which your skin is aging. If your skin is irritated, dry, or acne-prone you need a product that is more than just non-comedogenic—but designed to provide targeted repair while it moisturizes. This means that you may have a few different products that you rotate between as your skin needs change.

Tip #2 Transition Products For Anti-Aging

In terms of anti-aging, you will need to transition your products as you begin to see the visible signs of aging. In your 20s and 30s our Aqua Pure line provides a proactive approach with hyaluronic acid and our proven proprietary formulas. This line is a simple 4-step process including a gentle cleanser, lotion toner, serum, and cream. There is also a deep cleansing mask that you can use 2 to 3 times per week. Mix in condition-specific creams and masks from our Classic Line as needed.

Tip #3 Apply To A Damp And Toned Face

You are sure to cleanse your face before applying your moisturizer, but don’t wait too long because you need to apply your moisturizer to a damp, towel-dried face. Cleansing strips your skin of moisture so it must be replenished within 3 to 5 minutes of showering. This includes your skin from head to toe. If you apply your body lotion first, rinse your hands before applying your facial products. Pat your face dry, ideally with a soft microfiber beauty towel. Then, apply your toner. Wait 2 or 3 minutes, then move on to the next step in your skincare and beauty routine.

Tip #4 Lightest To Thickest

Now it is time to nourish, moisturize, and repair your skin. A layered approach is most effective, so apply your serum 2 to 3 minutes before your cream moisturizer. The serum will nourish, and the moisturizer will hydrate and repair your skin. If applied in the opposite order the ingredients in the serum will not be able to penetrate your thicker cream.

Tip #5 You Need SPF Every Day

Even with the most proactive approach to anti-aging, the sun can age your skin faster than anything else. It doesn’t matter if it is grey and cloudy out, you need to apply broad-spectrum UV protection of no less than 35 SPF every day. This will protect your skin from UVA, UVB, and even the blue light from your electronics. While it may be a lotion, SPF creams are not a moisturizer, so you need both. Your makeup may have sufficient SPF protection, but if it doesn’t just apply your SPF cream 2 to 3 minutes after your moisturizer. If you will be in the sun for an extended period of time, wear sunglasses and a hat and reapply your UV protection every 2 hours.

Just a few small tweaks to how and when you apply your moisturizer can make a rapid difference in how soft, smooth, healthy, and youthful your skin looks and feels.
