If your skin looks dull or uneven, a mineral clay mask will help restore your natural glow. Your skin will look brighter directly after applying your mask. Consistency combined with a proactive daily skincare routine will prolong your results. Here’s a closer look at why your skin is dull, how clay can help, and other skin-brightening tips.
Why Your Skin Is Dull?
There are a variety of reasons why your skin may be dull:
Excess of dead skin cells—you can’t see them, but if you aren’t exfoliating 2 to 3 times per week, dead skin cells will build up. While skin naturally sheds, oil, makeup, and skincare products can clog your pores and inhibit shedding. The rate of shedding also slows as you age.
Environmental toxins—while most of our skin is covered by clothing, our face is exposed all day long. This daily exposure to dirt and free radicals leaves impurities penetrating your pores. You can’t avoid the toxins, so you must be proactive about addressing them.
Skin stress—if your skin is stressed it will look dull. From acne to psoriasis, eczema, dry skin, dehydrated skin, sunburn, and even a lack of sleep. Treating skin stress may require working with a dermatologist and esthetician. At the very least, switching to gentle and targeted skincare products.
Nutrient deficiency—you need to nourish your skin internally and externally. It requires water, antioxidants, Omega-fatty acids, zinc, copper, iron, and more. Eating a well-balanced diet, taking nutritional supplements, and using antioxidant-rich skincare serums and moisturizers are essential.
Hormonal imbalances—whether it’s puberty, prescription hormones, other prescriptions, perimenopause, menopause, or an illness, hormonal imbalances can wreak havoc on your skin. Work with your physician to minimize the whole-body side effects.
How Clay Masks Can Brighten Your Skin?
Mineral clay is a naturally occurring compound found all over the world. It is derived from the remains of flora, fauna, rocks, and other organic matter. Over time, they form a pure, nutrient-rich, and fine silt or powder.
When mixed with oil or water, clay works like a magnet, drawing out environmental toxins. It also gently exfoliates your skin. With consistent use, clay will minimize excess oil—which is often caused by dead skin and clogged pores.
If you struggle with acne or monthly breakouts, clay can help. As counterproductive as it sounds, your body produces more oil when your pores are clogged. This is to encourage the shedding of dead skin cells. Again, our makeup and skincare products can slow this process.
How To Use Mineral Masks?
Mineral masks are gentle and effective for all skin types, and a must for anyone who struggles with oil or acne. Use each mask as directed.
Below are the directions for using Methode Brigette Kettner’s Terra Vita Mask. To moisturize while purifying and exfoliating, our mask is infused with soothing calendula oil.
- Cleanse your skin and leave it wet.
- Apply a thick layer of clay to your face, body, or scalp.
- Let the mask dry for 3 to 5 minutes.
- Wet your fingertips and lightly massage the clay in a circular motion to loosen it up.
- Rinse with warm water.
